About this tour

green-leafed trees covered mountain

Meghalaya is literally cloud-core energy, think emerald hills, waterfall drumbeats, and caves that echo like nature’s playlist. This Shillong & Cherrapunjee mini-escape is perfect if you want a short, high-impact reset, misty mornings, dramatic waterfalls, mossy caves, and food that warms a bone-deep chill away.

You’ll land in Guwahati, enjoy a scenic drive through pine-scented valleys to Shillong (the “Scotland of the East”), and then level up into Cherrapunjee, one of the wettest, most photogenic spots on Earth. Expect bucket-list views at Nohkalikai Falls, spelunking at Mawsmai & Arwah Caves, and chilled evenings eating momos while the clouds do their thing outside. Short trip, big feels.

Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrive Guwahati & Drive to Shillong

Scenic road commute & Umium lake chill
Touchdown at Guwahati Airport or NJP station. You’ll meet your driver, stack bags in the car, and start the scenic 3-hour drive toward Shillong. The road slides through rolling hills and tiny roadside markets, good playlist required. First stop is Umium Lake (aka “Big Water”), a calming reservoir where the water is so still it looks edited. Perfect for stretching legs, snapping travel-pics, or a short boat glide if you want to mellow out.

Settle into Shillong & first-night vibe
Arrive Shillong, check into your hotel, and take the rest of the afternoon easy. Walk around Police Bazaar or MG Road, small boutiques, chai stalls, and momos are all low-key iconic. Dinner can be local (try pork dishes or Jadoh) or something friendly to intro your tastebuds to the hills. Sleep well, tomorrow’s an early but gorgeous one.

Day 2 – Shillong → Cherrapunjee (Sohra) day trip

Hit the road to the wettest place on Earth
Breakfast early, then head out to Cherrapunjee, the drive is legit cinematic with mist hugging the slopes and waterfalls appearing around blind corners. First up: Mawsmai Cave and Arwah Cave, limestone caverns lit by natural openings, fun to explore and surprisingly photogenic. Wear good shoes; it’s rocky and damp.

Waterfall marathon + viewpoints
Next, soak in the dramatic Nohkalikai Falls, a sheer drop into an emerald pool that looks unreal on camera. Move on to Seven Sisters Falls and Thangkharang Park for that wide-angle valley view that reminds you mountains are the OG influencers. En route back, stop at Elephant Falls (three tiers, lots of green), a chill spot for photos and to breathe. Return to Shillong by evening; grab a cozy cafe table and trade today’s highlights over warm drinks.

Day 3 – Shillong — Drive to Guwahati

Last morning & local slow-down
Take a relaxed morning, breakfast with hill views, a short walk if you’re feeling it (or last-minute souvenir run in Shillong). The hill air hits different at dawn; soak it in.

Drive back & onward journeys
Check out and begin the drive back to Guwahati for your flight/train. Arrive at the airport/station with a camera roll full of fog, water, and green, and likely a little calmer than when you arrived.
